Jane turned 7 months old today so here’s what our days are like at this point. I’ve been a stay at home mom for about a month now and am loving it.
I still get up with her 2x per night, around maybe 1:00 and 5:30, it’s not so bad but it’ll be amazing when this stops – supposedly around 9 months?!
Today she woke up for real at 7:15.
7:15 – 8: The three of us lay in bed, Nathan and I take turns dozing off, depending on which of us she chooses to use as her personal playground. We discover her first tooth has come through! No wonder she was so fantastically crabby yesterday.
8 -9: Daddy leaves for work, we lay in the newly set up playroom. Last weekend we moved the sharp-edged coffee table out and cleaned up an old area rug. Our whole house is wood floors so before this we only had a small foam playmat or had to contain her in the activity center thing. It’s great to lay on the couch/wake up/listen to the radio while she plays:
9:00: Naptime. She goes down without much fuss, I get back in my own bed a few minutes later.
9:50: Wake up to baby noises. Classic 45 minute nap! Supposedly at 45 minutes they enter a light sleep cycle, and some babies can’t put themselves back to sleep – this seems to describe Jane’s naps every single day.
10:10: I let her sit in the crib for awhile on the off chance she’ll put herself back to sleep (she’s done it like, twice in the last few months). Finally get up and get going.
10:15 – 12: Clean up the house a little, get stuff ready to take to the thrift store later today, shower, nurse/diaper, make breakfast, eat in the playroom and get a start on cleaning out this closet that’s been driving me crazy.
Jane sits in the bumbo and plays with a colander while I shower:
12:00: Naptime again. She tiredly whines for a few minutes, but is out by 12:15. I use my 45 minute window to finish breakfast, have some computer time, clean up the kitchen.
1:00: Awake, but sounding super tired, so I leave her in the crib with hopes she’ll fall asleep again.
1:20: After a bunch of intermittent tired whining….silence!
1:23: Nope, still awake, more little tired “I might go back to sleep” cries.
1:35: Silence…yesss will she finally take a real nap?
1:45: Nope. Up for real.
1:45 – 3:15: Play, work on closet, make & eat lunch.
Jane abandoning “real” toys to play with a suitcase:
Trying so hard to crawl!
But, instead just settling into the splits:
Eating some kale at lunch:
The only regular solid food right now is oatmeal before bed. She’s rejected banana, carrot, and applesauce so far, but loves chewing on basil leaves and kale from our garden.
3:15: Leave to run errands. This is our first “free” day in all of September. Other days we spend our afternoons hanging out with friends and family or going to our weekly early childhood ed. class.
So we hit the thrift store to donate a few bags of stuff, then park at the co-op and walk around the neighborhood to go to this middle eastern store (in search of my new favorite grain, bulgur #1 fine ground and #4 coarse ground), the library, and to drop off a book at a friend’s house.
Jane getting sleepy – not at all excited about my excellent find of 1/2 price almond milk yogurt:
5:00: Home, she fell asleep in the car. I eat some yogurt and putz around on the computer some more.
5:30: Awake (and crabby – usual for this time of night). We play and I try to cut her nails but she throws a tantrum unless I let her play with the nail clipper. I think we got 7 out of 10 clipped at least.
6:00: Daddy’s home for 5 minutes before leaving for the gym.
6:15: Start bedtime routine – oatmeal dinner, diaper, jammies, nurse, sing & rock.
7:15: Finally sleep after 15 minutes of screaming and a bottle. Sometimes she falls asleep nursing, or goes quietly to sleep after some fussing, but sometimes she doesn’t seem to get enough so bottle it is.
And, the rest of the night is mine. To make dinner, read, clean (surprising how messy the house gets when you’re living in it all day and not away at work!), try to get to bed at a decent hour despite my night owl tendencies.
Just an average day in the life, happy 7 months Janey!
