Ahhhh, Minnesota. Not only are we supposed to get 7-14 inches by the time it stops snowing today, but for the next three days the high temp won’t be above zero, with windchills of -30 possible.
Poor Nathan is out there starting what is probably hours of shoveling, even in our small driveway. I actually kind of enjoy shoveling (as far as enjoyment of winter activities go…), it keeps you warm and you’re doing something useful. So I’d usually help him, but am out of commission this year, I wouldn’t say due just to being pregnant but more because of my screwed up SI joint.
At least he looks cute in his thermals:
And in action:
There’s our neighbor across the alley doing hers too, I can hear them commiserating from my spot here in the kitchen nook. Feeling guilty about not being able to help, but uhhmmm…. also a little thankful it doesn’t have to be me out there!
To try and make up for it, I’m planning to make Nathan chocolate chip pancakes when he comes in, we just happened to have all the ingredients (even though I’ve never made panckes for him as far as I can remember…). I’m gonna experiment using this recipe.
So, Week 29:
Biggest news this week – my SI joint related back/butt/hip pain is getting better! Per my midwife’s advice, I tried taking a full dose of tylenol for about 5 days straight, she said it might help the muscles to relax for long enough to feel better long term.
I can’t say that’s what worked for sure, because I also had a physical therapist tell me that she’s seen a lot of this in pregnant women and lots of times it goes away on its own.
Or maybe it was that fabulous chiropractic adjustment I had a few weeks ago. Ha.
Either way, after a month of being uncomfortable walking only short distances, the pain is significantly less. It feels amazing just to know I can go out and run errands and not feel like crying after because my muscles are so tight.
Also something I’ve been noticing the last couple weeks is I’m freakishly warmer than usual. I’ve read this is common during pregnancy, but it’s weird to experience. I’m the kind of person who hates hates hates cold weather because I’m always chilled to the bone and wear three layers to the office and don’t even want to walk to the copy machine because it means leaving the space heater I have in my cubicle.
But the space heater hasn’t been turned on once this winter and by the end of the day I’m fanning myself in a t-shirt, because I get even warmer after I’ve eaten. I wake up in the middle of the night in our old, cold house with freezing wood floors and kick all the covers off.
All I can say is if I ever get pregnant again, it’s being planned so 3rd trimester does not fall in the summer months!
Pancake Update: Nathan came in in the middle of writing this and I made the pancakes, they turned out great. If you want a simple, extremely dessert like breakfast, try this recipe, it’s from Isa Moskowitz’s much loved Vegan With A Vengeance. I think they’d be great with about 1/3 cup chopped walnuts for extra chunkiness/ healthiness.
