I went to the doc this week (mid-week 14) and was surprised I’ve only gained 3 pounds, despite how…round I’ve been feeling. I guess that’s normal though and my protruding stomach is more uterus position than weight gain.
It was my first appointment at a new clinic and I was relieved at how well it went. I decided to try out a different one after being unimpressed with my “regular” hospital’s maternity ward tour, an appointment with a batshit crazy midwife, an awful experience in their lab trying to get my blood drawn, and repeated billing mistakes for completely routine visits (this time and over the past years) resulting in me spending hours on the phone with the insurance company.
(For anyone living in Minneapolis, the first hospital was Fairview-Riverside, and now I’m going with HCMC).
I didn’t even consider HCMC at first because it’s right downtown and known as a ghetto community hospital that serves mostly people on government assistance.
But the appointments would be really convenient since I work downtown so I went to a midwife meet & greet luncheon one day and was totally impressed. Their program is one of the oldest in the twin cities and many of the midwives have worked their for years and had their kids & grandkids in the hospital. And, the midwife delivery rooms (9 I think) are completely separate from regular L&D, very nice and homey, offering water birth and a bunch of other “alternative” options.
So I switched and so far am really happy. I decided to enroll in a program they have where you have your regular appointments at a set time each month, meet with the midwife for the physical part, and then meet with the midwife and a group of other women due around the same time as you to discuss stuff and ask questions, etc. They said the program has been really popular and I would love to meet other people who will be moms the same time as me!
Next appointment date: Friday, Oct. 1st, when we have THE ultrasound to confirm that this is a girl. (ok, or a boy….I’m fine with either….reallllyyyyy……except that all the women in my family are already referring to the baby as little Jane Mavis…. 😉
